Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
Lou Reed (nacido como Lewis Allen Reed el 2 de marzo de 1942 en Freeport, Long Island, Nueva York - 27 de octubre de 2013) fue un cantante y escritor de rock, considerado el padre del rock independiente, primero como líder del grupo The Velvet Underground y luego en solitario. Enormemente influyente en el arte pop desde la década de los 60, sus principales discos son Rock'n Roll Animal, Transformer y, para un primer acercamiento, el soberbio concierto que ofreció en el Meltdown Festival: Perfect Night Live in London. Vive en Nueva York, ciudad a la que alude en sus mejores canciones, al punto de que se lo considera su mejor cronista.
En su época de The Velvet Underground escribió canciones que han pasado a la historia de la música pop: Heroin, Rock and Roll y Sweet Jane.
