Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
Hum fue una banda de Alternative Rock (Rock Alternativo) mezclado con Post-Hardcore formada en 1989; la banda realizaba una mezcla entre ambos géneros obteniendo una pesadez característica que los definiría por el resto de su carrera (a este sonido también se lo conoce actualmente como Heavy Alternative). La banda pasó por cambios de miembros hasta 1993, estableciéndose finalmente con Matt Talbot (voz, guitarra), Tim Lash (guitarra), Jeff Dempsey (bajo) y Bryan St.Pete (bateria) hasta su separación en el 2000.
La banda es más bien conocida gracias al sencillo Stars del álbum You'd Prefer An Astronaut, apareciendo en los tops de varias revistas y en varias radios del momento.
