Rock en español es la música rock compuesta e interpretada en castellano. A diferencia del rock en inglés, el rock en español ha logrado tener éxito mundial en pocas ocasiones, y muchas veces ni siquiera entre países de habla hispana. Por eso el rock en castellano se ha desarrollado de manera heterogénea en las distintas naciones hispanohablantes; quedando así la música de muchas bandas para uso casi exclusivamente nacional hasta la llegada de la globalización de contenidos multimedia acentuada por la generalización de internet y desarrollada especialmente en el siglo XXI.
Doves es una banda de indie rock formada en Wilmslow, Cheshire en Inglaterra. Sus integrantes: Jeez Williams en la guitarra, Andy Williams en la batería y Jimi Goodwin en el bajo, guitarra y voz.
A principios de los 90, forman el proyecto llamado Sub Sub y se integran en la escena dance de la ciudad inglesa. A mediados de la década, tras perder su estudio y el material de su nuevo disco por un incendio, deciden poner fin a su trayectoria electrónica y colocarse al frente de instrumentos convencionales para dar un completo giro a su visión de la música, creando Doves. Las influencias de la banda pasan por la psicodelía de las bandas de los sesenta, King Crimson, New Order, Smiths, Stone Roses y Radiohead. Se les ha considerado como padres del pop épico o representantes de lo que se ha llegado a llamar pop existencial, junto a otras bandas encabezadas por Coldplay.
