Tech trance, también conocido como techno-trance o techno/trance, es un subgénero dentro de la EDM que utiliza elementos techno y trance como sugiere el nombre. Tech trance estuvo iniciado por, entre otros, Oliver Lieb hacia 1994. Otros ejemplos tempranos de tech trance son Humate, Chris Cowie y Marmion. Durante varios años permaneció a la sombra del Hard trance, una fusión del tech trance con el Hard Acid trance.
Desde la ultima decada se ha transformado en un referente en la escena electronica mundial, hecho demostrado, ya que han alcanzando el numero #23 en el directorio de djlist.com y posicionado dentro de los TOP 100 de la lista de DJS mas populares por tres años consecutivos, dejando a Cosmic Gate dentro de la "Elite", siendo uno de los duos electronicos mas populares,a lo que también se suma su subida hasta el lugar #9 en las listas de Reino Unido. E incluso dejando atras la humildad en su Biografia oficial en referencia a la frase: "Eficiente, estupendo, fantastico, y lleno de innovacion si Mercedes es lo que al automovil en el mundo, paralelamente Cosmic gate lo es en la musica electronica."
Nic Chagall y Bossi lanzaron su primer single en mayo de 1999, con el nombre "The Drums" bajo el sello "EMI music" junto con otros singles bajo el mismo sello mencionando como ejemplo: "Mental Atmosphere" o de "The Truth" y su primer álbum lanzado en febrero de 2001 titulado como:"Rythm & Drums" el cual tuvo muy buen recibimiento en la escena, sumando también su repertorio de remesclas en las cuales se incluyen: "Urban Train" de Tiesto, "Punky" de Ferry Corsten, "DFF" de Blank & Jones"Answer the Question" de Svenson & Gielen y "White Bird" de Vanessa Mae por nombrar a algunos.
