Tech trance, también conocido como techno-trance o techno/trance, es un subgénero dentro de la EDM que utiliza elementos techno y trance como sugiere el nombre. Tech trance estuvo iniciado por, entre otros, Oliver Lieb hacia 1994. Otros ejemplos tempranos de tech trance son Humate, Chris Cowie y Marmion. Durante varios años permaneció a la sombra del Hard trance, una fusión del tech trance con el Hard Acid trance.
Melanie y Shaznay comenzaron su carrera musical cantando como coros en el ZTT Recording Studios en All Saints Road, Londres. En 1993, Melanie, Shaznay, y la tercera miembro original llamada Simone Rainford decidieron formar un grupo musical y grabar un disco juntas. Según Simone, pensaron en llamarle al grupo Spice, pero pero decidieron que eso no era buena idea, y decidieron llamarse All Saints 1.9.7.5., nombre de la calle donde se conocieron y el año de sus nacimientos. Fueron contratadas por ZTT Records UK.
En 1994, All Saints 1.9.7.5. actuaron por primera vez en el Touch Magazine en el Notting Hill Carnival. Las tres grabaron tres canciones, pero fracasaron. Además, Melanie y Simone tuvieron conflictos en cuanto a la dirección del grupo que causó serias tensiones en la banda.
