El rhythm and blues (abreviado por sus siglas R&B) o jumping music es un género musical derivado en su origen del jazz, el gospel y el blues. El término musical fue introducido en Estados Unidos en 1949 por Jerry Wexler de la revista Billboard. Sustituyó al término conocido como "race records" (grabaciones de raza), considerado ofensivo para la posguerra mundial así como para la categoría de Billboard "Harlem Hit Parade" en junio de 1949, y principalmente era usado para identificar el género musical que más tarde se desarrollaría en forma de rock and roll.
Kali Uchis (17 de Julio, 1993) es una cantante y realizadora audiovisual colombiana, radicada desde hace años en Virginia, Estados Unidos. De lírica fresca y fluida, su música tiene cierta melancolía de los 90, y aunque algunas melodías hacen pensar en R&B, siempre les imprime un toque indie y algo de trap (un estilo salido del hip hop y mezclado con algo de minimal), lo cual le da un toque avanzado, un estilo propio que camina hacia adelante. Karly Marina Loaiza (Alexandria, Virginia; 17 de julio de 1994), conocida artísticamente como Kali Uchis, es una cantautora, productora, actriz, directora, diseñadora y empresaria estadounidense.
Saltó a la fama internacional en 2021 con el gran éxito internacional de su canción "Telepatía", perteneciente al segundo álbum de estudio de la cantante titulado Sin Miedo (Del Amor y Otros Demonios); publicado el 18 de noviembre de 2020. Previo a esto, había lanzado un mixtape, Drunken Babble (2012), dos EP, Por Vida (2015) y To Feel Alive (2020) y su primer álbum de estudio titulado Isolation (2018). Es la primera cantante estadounidense de origen colombiano en recibir un Grammy en una categoría no latina, con la canción "10%" en colaboración con el productor de música electrónica haitianocanadiense Kaytranada en el año 2021.
