El rhythm and blues (abreviado por sus siglas R&B) o jumping music es un género musical derivado en su origen del jazz, el gospel y el blues. El término musical fue introducido en Estados Unidos en 1949 por Jerry Wexler de la revista Billboard. Sustituyó al término conocido como "race records" (grabaciones de raza), considerado ofensivo para la posguerra mundial así como para la categoría de Billboard "Harlem Hit Parade" en junio de 1949, y principalmente era usado para identificar el género musical que más tarde se desarrollaría en forma de rock and roll.
Avant (nacido en 1978 en Cleveland, Ohio) es un cantante de R&B afroamericano. Especialmente conocido por sus hits "Separated" (el remix con la colaboración de Kelly Rowland), "My First Love" y "Read Your Mind (remix con Snoop Dogg).
Colaboró en el remix de Karma, protagonizado por Lloyd Banks, y también apareció en 2004 en la película Barbershop 2: Back in Business.
