El rock peruano nació diez años y trece días después del final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial: el 15 de setiembre de 1955. Ese día se estrenó en cines locales Blackboard Jungle, o según la traducción castellana: Semilla de maldad. Gracias a una canción de Bill Haley que sonaba en la película, el éxito del filme entre los jóvenes limeños fue explosivo e inmediato. No pasaría mucho tiempo para que el sello discográfico El Virrey editara la canción —“Rock Around the Clock”— en versión nacional, en clásico formato de carbón para velocidad de 45 r.p.m.
Rio = Peru... Río se forma a inicios de los años 80s, cuando Cucho y Chachi Galarza se juntan con Pocho Prieto en el barrio de Pueblo Libre, en Lima Perú, para compartir ideas musicales, bautizaron al grupo como “ROYAL INSTITUTION ORCHESTRA” que se mantuvo en reserva hasta que se necesitó un nombre artístico para la firma de contrato de una disquera y al no encontrar uno que los identifique con su música, recurren a las iniciales: “R.I.O.”
