El Reggaetón es uno de los géneros musicales que más ha crecido en los últimos años, alcanzando su difusión niveles de aceptación fantásticos en todo el planeta. Se trata de una combinación entre el reggae jamaiquino, el rap y el hip hop. Sin dudas, el reggae, ha sido uno de los géneros musicales que más se ha combinado con otros géneros a lo largo de su historia y esto ocurrió oportunamente con el hip hop y el rap, dando paso al reggaetón.
Tomando prestado el nombre del libro "La Máquina del Tiempo" de Herbert George WELLS, ELOY se identifica con la idea de un nuevo comienzo gracias a la ayuda de una máquina de tiempo, a través de la cual pasaron de ser una banda que interpretaba temas de otros grupos a finales de los '60, atravesando por la problemática de no ser apreciados en su propio país, hasta llegar a ser una de las leyendas alemanas vivientes más sobresalientes de la escena progresiva mundial.
Formados en 1969 por Frank BORNEMANN (guitarras, vocales), Helmut DRAHT (batería), Erich SCHRIEVER (voz principal), Wolfgang STÖCKER (bajo) y Manfred WIECZORKE (teclados), como un grupo escolar que interpretaba temas de los BEATLES, MOODY BLUES, WHO y CREAM, en 1970 ya habían ganado un concurso y obtenido la oportunidad de grabar sus primeras dos composiciones en formato de 45 RPM: ‘Daybreak’ + ‘Walk alone’, temas que impulsaron a la joven banda a grabar un álbum, obteniendo la oportunidad en 1971 cuando graban su homónimo LP, tratando de imponer un estilo propio, influenciado sobretodo por el sonido del rock progresivo. No fue fácil, sobre todo cuando Erich, quien fungía como líder, no tenía presencia en el tablado. Las cosas se les complicaron cuando éste abandonó al grupo en 1972 y BORNEMANN tuvo que cantar en los conciertos que quedaban de la gira que llevaban entonces, pero la respuesta del público fue favorable y al no poder conseguir reemplazo para el vocalista, decidieron que Frank asumiera ese papel y así se convirtió en el nuevo líder de la banda. Como pasa en muchos grupos, ELOY tuvo problemas en su inicio para coordinar todas las ideas de sus integrantes, pero en 1973, con la grabación del álbum "Inside", todos en la banda acordaron asumir un estilo 100% progresivo y desde entonces se consolidaron como uno de los grupos más importantes de Alemania y más representativos del progresivo –sobre todo en un estilo espacial–, en el mundo entero.
