Estilo musical originario de Estados Unidos, donde se hizo popular en la década de los años setenta del siglo XX, inicialmente entre la gente de color, y que combina ritmos rápidos del pop con elementos del funk, la música electrónica y arreglos de cuerda, lo que da lugar en la mayoría de los casos a un estilo algo barroco y melódico a la vez. La música disco triunfó a lo largo de la mencionada década y durante el comienzo de los años ochenta.
Alicia Bridges tuvo un éxito de disco en los 70, titulado "I Love the Nightlife", de su álbum de debut homónimo. El tema ocupó los primeros puestos en 1978. Dos singles más de "Alicia Bridges" gozaron de un éxito similar, "Diamond in the Rough" y "Broken Women". Su siguiente álbum nunca no fue tan popular como el primero, además a principios de los 80 comenzaba el declive de la música disco. Editó "Play It as It Lays" en 1979 y "Hocus Pocus" en 1984. A mediados de los 90, la banda de house Masters At Work reeditó "I Love the Nightlife" para la película "The Last Days of Disco".
