El metal es un estilo de música basado en sonidos fuertes y poderosos que inspiran al que los oye, generalmente un sentimiento de enojo, ira, odio que usualmente son dirigidos hacia la sociedad donde vivimos, la vida diaria, el sistema político en algunos casos, en otros podemos encontrar temáticas que van desde religión, satanismo, muerte, sexo, violencia, soledad, melancolía. El metal tiene diversas formas y estilos, que van desde rápido pero no tan gutural, hasta el punto muy rápido y muy gutural. Los estilos son muy variados, y cada cual tiene sus ritmos, sonidos y temáticas respectivas.
Faith No More tiene sus orígenes en el año 1981, cuando en California, Mike "The Man" Morris fundaba Faith No Man (acompañado por Mike "Puffy" Bordin, Billy Gould, Mike Morris y Wade Worthington). Un año después, Mike Morris fue expulsado y Wade Worthington fue reemplazado por Roddy Bottum, y el grupo comenzó a llamarse Faith No More. El nombre proviene de una frase de un amigo de la banda: The Man was no more, que literalmente significa "el hombre no estuvo más", haciendo referencia a que habian expulsado a "The Man" (Mike Morris). De modo que tomaron ese juego de palabras y sustituyeron "The Man" por "Faith", y la banda se quedó como "Faith No More" (No mas fe).
En 1983, Chuck Mosely, como vocalista, y Jim Martin, como guitarrista, se unen al grupo. Dos años después, lanzan su primer álbum, titulado "We Care A Lot". En 1987, tras haber firmado contrato con Slash Records, lanzan su segundo álbum: "Introduce Yourself". Por problemas de alcoholismo, desavenencias y sus limitadas capacidades vocales, Chuck Mosely es despedido del grupo.
