El termino K-pop surge por el movimiento de la cultura joven y (K) de Korean (Coreano en ingles); en resumen es la abreviatura de Korean Pop o Pop Coreano. Es un género de música que tuvo sus orígenes especialmente en Corea del Sur ya que prácticamente no hay una industria de música popular en Corea del Norte. Ya que Corea del Norte tiene un estricto régimen de gobierno comunista, por lo que las relaciones con Corea del Sur son muy pocas, así que cuando se habla de cantantes coreanos se da como sobrentendido que se habla de Corea del Sur.
"KARA" fue una girlband (grupo vocal de chicas) popular en Corea. Debutaron el 29 de Marzo del 2007 con cuatro miembros, Park Gyu Ri (líder), Han Seung Yeon, Kim Sung Hee y Jung Nicole. Su primer album se tituló The First Blooming donde mostraban una imagen madura e independiente.
En marzo del 2008, DSP Entertainment anuncia que SungHee deja el grupo debido a que falló en sus estudios, lo que obligó a retrasar el mini-album que tenían previsto lanzar ese mes. En mayo del mismo año dos nuevas integrantes se unen al grupo; Goo Hara y Kang Jiyoung con las cuales ya han sacado 2 mini-albums y un album titulado Revolution, de este último el single 'Mister' fue un gran éxito debido a su coreografía. En enero de 2016 el grupo se disolvió.
