El hip hop es un género musical que incluye golpes rítmicos que acompañan a una voz principal que rapea. Olubowale Víctor Akintimehin (21 de noviembre de 1984), más conocido por su nombre artístico Wale, es un rapero estadounidense de Washington, D.C.. Saltó a la fama en 2006, cuando su canción "Dig Dug (Shake It)» se hizo popular en su ciudad natal. Wale fue reconocido a nivel local y continuó grabando para la audiencia regional. El productor Mark Ronson descubrió a Wale en 2007 y consiguió que firmase para Allido Records PS. A la vez que firmaba con este sello, Wale lanzó varias mixtapes y apareció en los medios de comunicación nacionales, incluyendo MTV y varias revistas urbanas. Wale nació en Washington, D.C. Sus padres son del grupo étnico yoruba del sudoeste de Nigeria y llegó a los Estados Unidos desde Austria en 1979.
