El hip hop es un género musical que incluye golpes rítmicos que acompañan a una voz principal que rapea. Este es un género musical muy popular y uno de los principales componentes de lo que es considerado como la cultura hip hop. Muchos espectáculos instrumentales en los que se presentan DJs sin apoyo vocal, también son abarcados bajo el género de la música hip hop. Esto se ha vuelto más popular dado que las técnicas de mezclado y sampleo (o muestreo) han madurado en los últimos años.
B.E.P es una de las bandas más vendedoras de la actualidad, al haber rebasado la cifra de 33 millones de discos y más de 40 millones de singles en todo el mundo. De hecho son uno de los grupos más populares del planeta y han estado de gira en más países que ninguna otra banda. will.i.am no sólo es el MC líder y motor creativo del grupo. También diseña, es actor, activista social, y un solicitadísimo productor musical que ha trabajado con la crème de la crème del mundo musical, de U2 a Nas pasando por Flo Rida. Fergie, la célebre cantante del grupo, se ha convertido en poco tiempo en actriz e icono del mundo de la moda, así como en todo un referente de la feminidad actual. Taboo y apl.de.ap, que comenzaron en el grupo junto con will.i.am a principios de los 90, han sido embajadores culturales, extendiendo sus intereses a la interpretación y a labores filantrópicas. Juntos, los cuatro componentes de The Black Eyed Peas han llevado al grupo a escribir una historia de logros sin parangón. Su álbum, Monkey Business, les valió dos Premios Grammy (Mejor Actuación de Grupo o Dúo, Mejor Actuación Rap de Dúo o Grupo), además de cinco nominaciones. La banda posee 3 premios Grammy desde que comenzaron su carrera. Fergie disfrutó de su gran momento con su álbum multiplatino en solitario, The Dutchess, y floreció como icono de estilo y de la moda. También ha rodado recientemente un papel en la película, Nine (el pesonaje Saraghina), con Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman y Penélope Cruz. También pasó un largo tiempo en Filipinas, su tierra, y aceptó la responsabilidad de Embajador de Turismo en su país de origen. apl también creo la Fundación apl que ayuda a niños en sus comunidades de Filipinas. "Las experiencias que he tenido me han hecho crecer como persona tanto como lo he hecho como artista" dice. Taboo siguió el camino que le aportó cosas como artista y padre de familia. Actuó en dos películas (Cosmic Radio, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) mostrando sus magníficas dotes para el baile y las artes marciales en cada caso. Y lo más importante siguió su necesidad de dedicarse a su familia tras pasar tantos años de viaje debido a su trabajo con BEP, dedicándole tiempo a su hijo mayor de quince años, Joshua, y casándose con su novia de toda la vida el pasado Julio. La pareja está esperando un niño. "Encontrar esa parte de ti que te hace sentirte orgulloso de tu paternidad y abrazar una vida donde te rodea el amor ha sido como un sueño" dice. Black Eyed Peas han sido extremadamente consistentes en su creatividad precisamente porque reconocen la importancia de tomar perspectiva y de tener otras experiencias al margen. Cuando los cuatro componentes se reúnen sucede siempre algo especial.
