La música alternativa es uno de los estilos musicales más populares a nivel internacional. El rock alternativo fue producido como una alternativa a la música a finales de los 80 y principio de los 90. Siendo en esta última década donde alcanza gran aceptación por parte de los amantes de la música, y esto se debió en gran medida a la colaboración de bandas punk de los años 70 y 80. La baja en popularidad del rock alternativo fue debido a la sobresaturación del mercado causado por los ejecutivos de compañías disqueras quienes solo pensaban en ganar plata.
Gorillaz es un grupo virtual británico formado principalmente por Damon Albarn, cantante de las bandas Blur y The Good, the Bad & the Queen; Jamie Hewlett, dibujante inglés creador de cómics como Tank Girl y Los Freebies; y otros artistas que han colaborado en sus proyectos. El grupo, en su formato virtual, está compuesto por 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle y Russel Hobbs.
Gorillaz apareció en 1998 y ha lanzado 4 álbumes de estudio: Gorillaz (2001), Demon Days (2005), Plastic Beach (2010), The Fall (2010) y Humanz (2017); también dos colecciones de caras-B: G-Sides (2002) y D-Sides (2007) y un remix del álbum Gorillaz llamado Laika Come Home (2002). También han lanzado tres DVDs: Phase One: Celebrity Takedown, Demon Days Live at Manchester Opera House y Phase Two: Slow Boat To Hades.
